Upcoming Events
Saturday, September 25, 2010 10am-2pm FREE, all ages John Muir National Historic Site 4202 Alhambra Avenue, Martinez, California
Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail’s designation and the Grand Opening of the new interactive, bilingual exhibit that takes you back to 1775 when 240 Spanish colonists traveled 1,200 miles from Northern Mexico to Alta California (San Francisco). This multi-sensory display allows visitors to experience many of the sights and sounds from the diverse landscapes these settlers passed through, while learning about the obstacles, opportunities and legacy of the historic expedition.
After the exhibit is unveiled, there will be hands-on demonstrations and family friendly activities, like adobe brick and cornhusk doll making along with live music from early California. Plus, there's a chance to meet “Anza” himself and watch the Amigos de Anza equestrian drill team. Activities are free, suitable for all ages, and take place in the orchard in front of the Martinez Adobe where the exhibit is located.
Bring a picnic lunch & spend the day!
