Court Street between Main & Escobar

Street widening created area dedicated as Sharkey Square in October of 1954 to honor State Sen. William R. Sharkey, 50 years newspaper publisher of the Contra Costa Gazette.

Plaque in the Square  reads - Sharkey Square, dedicated in memory of Will R. Sharkey 1879 - 1948. Publisher, Legislator, and Conservationist.
